Eighteen cadets graduate from Basic Cadet Training.

Eighteen new cadets of the Concord Civil Air Patrol graduated from 10 weeks of Basic Cadet Training tonight at the NH Army National Guard Armory in Concord.

All eighteen were recruited this past fall as part of the Concord Squadron’s twice-annual Unit Open House & Recruiting Night.  Following the Fall Open House, interested new cadet members began their 10 weeks of training during the regular Thursday night Civil Air Patrol meetings.

Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Ben Fisher and Cadet Master Sergeant Sam Nichols served as the cadets’ trainers during the 2 1/2 month long training period.  Cadets learned all aspects of cadet life, from the 71 year history of the Civil Air Patrol to basic drill & ceremony movements, proper wear of the CAP’s cadet uniforms and the sometimes obscure rules of military customs & courtesies.

On graduation, each of the 18 cadets were assigned to one of the two cadet “flights” that comprise the larger squadron. There, under the watchful eye of other experienced cadets, the new members will continue to advance in the 5 elements of the Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Program: Leadership, Aerospace, Character Development, Physical Fitness & Activities.

The next Civil Air Patrol Open House and Recruiting Night is scheduled for March 28th, 2013, 6:30pm at the NH Army National Guard Armory off Regional Drive in Concord.
